Solitary confinement cell description
How does solitary in Evin look like? They have several dimensions of cells, ranging from 1.5 meters * 1.5 meters to 3.5 meters * 3.5 meters. Most "normal" cells in the section have a window, a small metal toilet and an even smaller sink.
You will get two blankets, one to put on the ground, or under your head, and second one to cover yourself. There are two prints of Quran, one in Arabic, another Farsi. That's pretty much it - just you and your thoughts remain.
Activities in 240
You can hardly do anything but think in 240, especially when you do not speak Farsi or Arabic. They don't let you exercise outside, but I suggest each prisoner to include exercises in the cell in their daily routine. The experience is very stressful, and can easily lead to both physical and mental illnesses. In order to avoid it, it is crucial to exercise, and focus your thoughts on the world outside. Good inspiration on how to do in the cell can be found on this blog, where author shares his personal experience.
Food and hygiene
They serve food three times a day. Breakfast is extremely small, just one egg, or a small piece of cheese. Sometimes it's accompanied by a couple of fresh dates. Lunch is always rice, sometimes with meat, another time without, but always cold and sometimes smelly. The recipes aren't bad, but they purposely use the lowest quality ingredients and let the foot rotten a bit before serving you. However, in order to survive, I suggest you to not be too picky, and eat what they give to you. There isn't much choice left, is it?
Regarding hygiene, there's not much to write. You will be allowed to take a shower just once a week, it's a short and cold one. Anyway, try to take the most out of this opportunity, and clean both your body and hair properly. They will most likely cut your hear on your very first day in prison, so if it happens, soap will be enough for you to use in jail.
Contact with other prisoners
One of the toughest things about 240 is that you lack contact with both the outside world and other prisoners. There is nobody to talk to, and even when you leave the cell, you will be alone--walking in the ward, showering.
One can sometimes hear other prisoners, if they sing or if they are being tortured, but honestly, this is something you'd prefer not to hear.
Solitary confinement is not a walk in the park, and section 240 can easily deprive you of your powers. However, if you do not resign, if you create a daily program and do your best to keep your health and sanity as good as possible in this place, you'll have a chance to walk away in a good condition.
